weebeasties May 16, 2008 06:31 PM

my friend just got an alligator, small about 18" and I thought I saw it barf up small yellow pellet like things. Is that normal or common? It only did this once that he knows of but I was worried that it was sick. Any ideas?

not an expert by any means I am a newbie in croc care but from knowing other reptiles has your friend been stressing it out to much... and no offense but does your friend know what he is getting into with the size and needs of the gator just doesnt sound like you have much reptile experience and besides stress to get other opinions your going to need to post things like cage set up temp gradients diet all that good stuff

What your friend saw is perfectly natural. Crocodilians are unable to digest the hair of their prey animals. With that being said, when your friend feeds rodents to his alligator...the alligator builds this up in his gut over a period of time and then finally regurgitates the hair in pellet form.

Regards,

Chris

Thank you for the information. I have alot of snake experience so I was a bit concerned but it makes sense that if hair goes in it has to come out. thanks again, I'll let my frined know.
