Hungry Snake?

kepdi Aug 31, 2003 10:38 AM

I had my new baby ball for about 3 weeks and he eats just fine and is used to me already. The thing is when i drop a mouse in the cage, he looks at it and strikes right away. No stalking. No looking around. Soon as he sees it, he eats it. I was just wondering if this means he is really hungry or if this is just the way he eats. I fed him twice - a week apart. I'm not sure if I should try to feed him maybe every 5 days or something. Thanx in advance for any help.

I agree, every 5 days is ok. It could be that he is really hungry, or it could be that is just how he eats. After keeping your snake for a year or so I'm sure you'll learn the difference with its personality.

After my female laid eggs a month ago she has been very eagerly accepting meals. I've been feeding her as often as twice a week (every 3-4 days) in some cases. I'm sure once she hits the weight she was at before laying eggs she won't be quite so eager to eat so much. Also I'm not feeding huge meals. She could easily take a 300 gram rat, but at the moment the biggest I have are just shy of 200.

My daughters snake takes 2 smallish mice ever week, and she is only a couple months old
I talked my daughter into trying something larger than a fuzzy, because she was eating 4 of them, then hungry 3-4 days later
