Previously this was posted on another forum, but I thought it would be a nice CA addition here. This spring has been very frustrating at times for me. Most of my spots ended up drying out before prime time, but others remained moist and I was limited to those areas. But overall it's been a very nice spring. In March I decided I wanted to try flipping a boa. I haven't flipped one in 18 years  Damn, it doesn't even seem that long ago. The flowers were really nice to see this year compared to last year when nothing grew at all in this area.

Baja California Lyresnake (Trimorphodon biscutatus lyrophanes) This juvenile was the first I've ever flipped.

San Diego Nightsnake (Hypsiglena ochrorhyncha klauberi) Also flipped this under a rock.

Coastal Rosy Boa (Lichanura trivirgata roseofusca)
Damn, after about 3 days I finally flipped one. These boa guys sure make it look easy! I have a lot to learn when it comes to flipping boas though. I was very excited about the find and took about a hundred pictures of it. lol

Granite Spiny Lizards (Sceloporus orcutti)

San Diego Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer annectens)
I couldn't believe my eyes when I flipped a board and found this 70" Gopher Snake under it! It was the largest one I've found
so far. Wish the picture had turned out a little better.

It almost looked like it had snowed here.

Red Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum piceus)
My first Coachwhip in a couple of years. After they struggle for long enough, they will sometimes try to play dead and point
their nose at the ground.

This one tried to play Indigo.

Snake food.

California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)

another

And another

San Diego Alligator Lizard (Elgaria multicarinata webbii) This one had some unusually nice red coloration.

Two-striped Gartersnake (Thamnophis hammondii) Found between two boards.

San Diego Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer annectens)
These two dashed as soon as I lifted their cover.

California Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis getula californiae)

A Riverside Co. striper! A bit thin but was still happy to find it.

I thought this picture turned out cool.

San Diego Nightsnake (Hypsiglena ochrorhyncha klauberi)

Western Black-headed Snake (Tantilla planiceps)
Found this little guy after searching for hours without a find. He turned out to be the only snake I ever found at this site.

Southern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus helleri) Believe it or not, the only one I've seen this year.

Red Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum piceus) A subadult found under a board.

One found under a piece of car seat.

And one of the nicest ones I've ever found, under this board.

San Diego Banded Gecko (Coleonyx variegatus abbotti)

California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)
This is the ultimate find for the area and will probably be my best find for the year. I dream about these snakes  I couldn't
believe my eyes when I picked it up. From above it looks banded.

Coastal Rosy Boas (Lichanura trivirgata roseofusca)
Well, since it was really starting to get dry, and the boas probably weren't under the rocks any more, I decided to try and road
cruise them. I tried last year but didn't find any. This year it was easy. I found two boas on two different nights. These were the
first two I found on this particular evening.
Boa #1

Boa #2

Then found these two another evening.

Found these two DOR's. The Long nosed was smashed flat. I think the king happened on to a DOR, began to eat it, then became a DOR.

Then a 4 boa night!
Boa #1 A large female.

Boa #2 Adult female.

With so many out this night, I guess someone had to get hit. If there was any more traffic, there probably would have been a lot more DOR's. Also seen a DOR ruber

Boa #3 A juvenile.

Boa #4 A sub adult in situ.

I hope this is a good indication that the night driving season will be back to normal this year. Keep the post's rolling in, guys.
