is this a good idea? Any disadvantages other then fat content? What about the wives tale that they eat through the intestinal membrace of younger lizards?

raising babies on mealworms?

It's been knwon to happen. to be honest, it's better off going for the traditional gut-loaded crickets, and plenty of veg. Mine are just starting to eat theres, and at 3 months old, are getting pretty big. They pic at it though, not eating too muhc, but getting used to it. If you don't feed them it now, they may refuse it later in life, which is when they need it most.

well mealworms are not nessisarily "fatty", your probably thinking of waxworms...mealworms however do contain high amounts of chitin in their exo skeletons, and that is very hard to digest, especially in young ones. I would not recommend it...the young ones shoulnt be fed mealworms until they are at least a juvi, and even then they should be given sparingly. I would recommend raising the babies on gutloaded crickets (pinhead/small), small silkworms (very good choice), a salad everyday, and waxworms as treats...thats what i would do. Mealworms have a hard outer shell (chitlin?) that has been known to cause problems w/the intestine tract. They aren't high in protein either, which is what beardies need early in life along with numerous other things that I'm sure you are aware of. They are high in fat though.
