"Ugly" het Albinos?

Serpent_Nirvana May 17, 2008 10:26 PM

Hey all,

A question for the general blood community: is there such a thing as an "ugly" het albino blood?

It seems that all the ones I have seen have very pretty, clean patterns and are various shades of vivid orange and red -- what we all love in a blood Are there any het albinos out there that are just plain drab-colored, or does the supposedly hidden albino gene *always* spruce up its carrier?

Thanks in advance for your input ...

Well to this day i have not even seen a "ugly" blood- is there such a thing?!?!

I just mean a het albino blood that is kind of a drab brownish color, or has a "dirty" kind of appearance ... All of the hets I have seen so far look very clean and brightly colored, as if the gene spruces up the hets a bit even when not being fully expressed...

Well I personally have never seen a less than stunning STP period. I have seen some bloods that will knock your socks off, but even the normal old plain jane Sarawaks are stunning. Or at least that my opinion.

The Albino Blood is a mutation that from the beginning was selectively bred to some the highest quality red blood pythons out there these Hets in turn have carried on the good looks of the parents. Who really wants an ugly het? No one I can tell you this that all the albinos and het and normal breedings that are going on the U.S right now are after one main thing COLOR! Some may be working on pattern, but with the bloods in my opinion color is the most important selling factor! The albinos that we see today are from years of Selective breeding and thats how you get a-lot of pretty Hets floating around!

DANG, those are some nice snakes!! :D I love anything striped, and striped plus super-red is even better ... Those both look kinda hypo-ish too, especially the boy He is STUNNING!

Yep, that was one of my theories on the "no ugly hets" phenomenon -- my alternate theory though was that perhaps the gene itself "colors up" the hets some, perhaps by just slightly reducing melanin ..?

I think one or two "ugly hets" would disprove that, and I gotta believe that there are at least a few breeders who have bred an albino to a somewhat sub-par partner just in an effort to produce any hets they could (maybe thinking they were more like ball pythons in that all that matters is the mutation).

I guess maybe this is the wrong crowd to ask though -- probably anybody posting on a blood forum is gonna be pretty discriminating
