URGENT... Horned Lizard laid eggs... I think..

modernrelativist Aug 31, 2003 11:23 AM

Hi, I think my DHL just laid two eggs. They were with the scat on the heat rock, where she always rests. They are not round at all, more like a pill shape with a brown tip on one end. I will include a picture, but if it does not show then it can be seen at http://www.tufts.edu/~dhampt01/strange.jpg

Please, if anyone knows anything about the care of these eggs, if that's what they are, post anything you know.

Thanks,
Daniel

These are not eggs. Sorry. The white pieces are uric acid tabs. Uric acid is scrubbed from the urine and the water content is reabsorbed. The HL pictured is a male Desert Horned Lizard, so you do not have to worry about eggs. I would worry about the uric acid concentration though. The HL appears to not be getting ants as a majority (90% ) of its diet. The uric acid tab should be no larger (in proportion to the scat) than 1/5 the size (if not smaller). Lester G. Milroy III

Oh yeah... I knew that... Heh. Well thanks for the info, I'm pretty new to the DHL thing, as I just got him a few days ago. I just got some ants in the mail, actually, so he'll be in tip top shape soon. Thanks for identifying the gender too, as I had been wondering about that.
