Tail problem

powell_baby May 18, 2008 11:11 AM

Today I took my leo out of his cage and found that the end of his tail is injured. The very tip of it has some black, crusty stuff and right next to it on the underside of the tail is red as if it was bleeding or maybe is close to bleeding, I don't know. I haven't been able to find any blood anywhere though. I don't know what happened but is there something I can do to help him heal?

I would also advise neosporin. And if you are using something such as sand substrate, switch to newspaper so as to keep debris out of the wound. And don't use Q-tips to apply the neosporin, they tend to leave behind small strands of cotton, which can also cause infection.

ok, neosporin then.. And I use paper towels as a substrate but I do have a tupperware container with moist peat moss in it. I was thinking that may be what was stuck to the tip of his tail. But I put it in some water for a little bit and it didn't come off, so I'm not sure.

Just make sure it is NOT the neosporin with pain killer.
