hey its good to see Jack getting his exercise, he is looking good as usual. there are some nice close ups there
how is your back pond area coming by the way?

0.1 soon to be wifey (hopefully)
1.0 rotwiler/chow (Boomer-wifey's pooch)
1.0 norm corn (Jake aka grumpy old terdhead)
0.1 col redtail boa (Dixie-my baby girl)
0.1 ball python (Bella- wifey's baby girl)
hopeful for not to distant future:
--brazillian rainbow boas 1 female for sure
2 or 3? maybe a breeding pair?
-- bearded dragon for the wifey my list got to big...
Thanks. Back yard pond project kind of fizzled out. I don't really have the time or energy to build the perimeter wall myself, but I didn't realize how much a landscaper was going to charge to do it! And then there would be the worry of predators.
It just turned out it was going to be too much time, effort and money for the risk of losing the reason for the project - the wood turtles. So right now all I added to the area was a small koi to the pond. (And I think he ate all the tadpoles!) Maybe when the kids go off to college I'll pursue it again...
Anyway, on the bright side, I should be able to post about something other than Jack soon.
Thanks,
Ed

yeah those fish will eat those tadpoles so fast you wont have any left the next day.

I opened my mouth and out flowed a melody black.
Yeah, that whole backyard thing didn't start out well. A few weeks ago I went to buy a new tree to shade the pond, and coincidentally a koi dealer set up some tanks at the nursery. They had some nice fish for $5, so I bought a beautiful one on impulse. (My wife told me not to get it, saying it would be dead in a week.) I ignored her, and brought the fish home. The NEXT morning, we looked out the back window and saw the pond was just about empty!!! Someone or something moved the return hose, and the pond drained. I found my beautiful, chubby (from eating a bunch of tadpoles) fish lying stiff in the grass halfway across the yard. There were still some mosquito fish and tadpoles in the 2" of water, luckily. After I re-filled the pond, I went back to the nursery, but the koi dealer was not there. I bought another fish from the nursery, it was 3 times as much for half the fish.
He's doing well, though, I guess he finished off the remaining tadpoles. Sort of like Golden Corral for koi!
I guess I should stick to snakes...
Thanks,
Ed

Good guess, I do like the hypos. But it will be more "anery"-like.

Is Jack getting a wife or two?
Or maybe you've got a BRB morph coming?
Perhaps an anthill python?
Hmm...with your interests it could be anything!
How long do we have to wait to find out?
Good guesses! I was about to pull the trigger on an anthill python, but for now I couldn't justify the cost. Still on my short list, though.
I was torn between getting Jack a girlfriend and getting another species of snake. I opted for the latter.
Not a BRB mprph, but you're getting warmer.
I'll let you know what it is after I pick out the one I want (should be within a few days), don't want to jinx myself yet.
Thanks for guessing. Except now I'm thinking I should also get another Indigo...
Thanks,
Ed

One of Jeff's Argentinian Rainbow Boas perhaps?
You know Jack's gonna need a wife. That way you can sell me one of their kids!

"anery" and "getting warmer" were pretty good hints. Not that I have those beauties on the brain or anything...
Man, you guys are pretty good. I wasn't going to say anything at all, I was just going to post pics of my new "anery BRB", but that joke wouldn't be funny after that Photoshop hoax. Anyway, since you guessed correctly, you get first dibs on my future Indigo babies.
Thanks,
Ed

That one AWESOME snake you got there. Got some size on him now and he isn't done yet...truly spectacular animals...I have the "poor mans" version hehe...but the real thing is not comparable, although I love my Black Pines.
I would be tempted to feed him a snake. I have a Eastern Chain King. I have not fed him any snakes as of yet, but if I ever get any neonates that need to be culled, I am sure he would be happy to oblige LOL!!!

Thanks Frank. Obviously I'm biased, but I agree he will be pretty impressive when he's 7 feet long. But the black pines are awesome as well. All snakes are great in their own way.
I actually spoke with a local snake breeder and asked him to give me any babies that don't survive. (He agreed to sell me them, but I haven't heard from him yet.) Right now I give him 3 large anoles per feeding, and soon he will need more. I'd love to give him a snake to fill him up a little more.
I wonder if there have been any studies on the wild diets of king snakes?? I'd be curious how much of their diets consist of snakes (or lizards) in the wild. I've never had an Eastern King, are they messy? (Seems like all my discussions somehow turn to sh**.)
Thanks,
Ed

Well Eastern king snakes poop like all snakes but it isn't like when my pines go, when they go I KNOW it immediately.
They are truly an under kept snake that is both beautiful and impressive as well. Some top out over 5 feet. NJ being known to have the larger bloodlines. Mine is from North Carolina bloodline and is a beauty. I have a lone male and want to see how big I can get him. He is growing like a weed on a average feeding schedule and is a bright white bands and jet glossy black.
Even though the are not considered "designer" they are truly spectacular to behold when properly fed and maintained.
Great feeders and very efficient predators.
Ironically lots of Indigo keepers talk about "pitting" them against each other due to their ophiophagus ways.
