Opinions of breeders wanted...

NUCCIZ_BOAS May 19, 2008 12:48 AM

So the other day I posted the sad story of the sunglow arabesque litter Ive been waiting for turning out in slugs. Now I have a dilemma on my hands. The would-be mother, the arabesque het albino..... How soon should I try her again. She threw the slugs thursday night, and has already taken in 2 jumbo rats. Physically, she doesn't appear to have lost any weight, she's moving around and showing all the signs of being 100% healthy after throwing slugs..... thank god.....

But here's how things have been done with her. fall 2006 I bred her with no results. no ovulation, no slugs, no babies, no nothing. She just didn't take, plain and simple. So I tried her this past fall, she ovulated, went through about 90 days POS, and slugged out. So being that she looks so healthy and is active, has all of her weight, do I dare to breed her this season?????

I'm thinking if I do try, it will be late, probably not until january/february. Give her as much time to recoupe as possible. OR.... should I give her the year off and wait until fall 2009? Both ways sound reasonable. Obviously a year off could never hurt her, BUT.... being that she only successfully took once, and fortunately she seems to be in great health, and so early in the year.... it is only may after all, plenty of time to rest up before jan/feb, I could see how it could be done again this season.

So I just want opinions, what would you guys do if this snake was yours?

However, everything is also dependant on the other litter I am still waiting on. I have a litter of sunglows in the oven, due July 27th. The het female was bred by the same male that bred the arabesque girl. So if she slugs out, needless to say I will give the arabesque a year off and find a new boyfriend for her. But so far, that female looks great, she's only day 40 POS and is as fat as my thigh, meanwhile the arabesque never swelled up at all, so I had a feeling something wasn't right.

So of course I won't make any decisions until the results of that litter are determined, lets see if the male is throwing good sperm.

Any opinions are welcome
Thanks in advance
Tony

personally, i would keep her on a normal feeding schedule, observe her health, behaviour, etc, and evaluate her around october/november... and make my decision then.

good luck!
