feeding question

koolbeans15 Aug 31, 2003 12:26 PM

My amel corn is about 13 inches long and I feed him 2 pinkies once a week (every Tuesday). Should I be feeding him more often? I mean, I don't know how to tell if a snake is too skinny, but I think he is a little on the skinny side. He also seems hungry after only 2 or 3 days after I feed him last. Please reply and thanks to all that reply!

Well how old is he? I'm no expert on feeding....but I heard that it's better to feed him a fuzzy instead of 2 pinkies...that's what I heard...I hope an expert here can help you more on that.

Good Luck

At 13 inches, two pinkies a week doesn't sound too bad.
If you feel your snake isn't getting enough you may very well want to try a fuzzy. Just make sure it isn't too big. You don't want the fuzzy to be bigger then about 1 1/2 times the diameter of the snake.
Some people like to feed their hatchlings on a four or five day schedule as opposed to a weekly schedule but I find once a week (Saturdays) much easier to keep track of. I don't think you are in danger of starving your little guy on your current schedule.
good luck

You can try a small fuzzy, but I find that feeding on a 4 day schedule works better for the younger snakes. This give the pinkie time to digest before you feed another.
