ltownmorphs May 19, 2008 10:46 PM

So i have a proven dbl het snow female that i breed to a albino het snow male. So im waiting for her to drop a colorful litter this week. Well it happened today and not one albino or snow out of 38 babies. I got 12 anerys and 26 poss. dbl hets. at least all are healthy and the mom is doing great. Hopefuly i hit better odds next time.

thanks

How was the female "proven", as far as what did she produce and for whom? If you produced albinos with her in the past, then you had some bad odds IMO, if you were TOLD she produced whatever in the past, I'd say you had some bad info. At the root you're breeding an albino to a het albino, you SHOULD see at least one albino in 38 babies IMO.

I proved her out last time with a dbl het male. i got anerys,an albino, and one snow.

I think this is a very important post for people to see and understand! The snake does not "owe" the predicted ratio based on Mendel's pea projects! Yes, some times you just nail the odds But some times as you just demonstrated you miss-the good news is you had a nice group of anerys all 100% het for albino and all the normal babies are 100% het albinos and 66% het anery. The BEST thing is you just produced a massive litter of perfect babies, so though I know you are disappointed, you should pat yourself on the back for such a fine litter.

Very interesting, maybe next time around you'll hit multiple snows??? Congrats on the litter.

Thanks for the responses. It was a little disappointing at first but like i said before all are healthy. I wanted to post that message just to show that sometimes you get unlucky. Thanks again and good LUCK.

I have 2 proven Het for Albinos that produced this year. The Male proved out in 2003 and the female in 2006.

They had a very nice litter this year.

There were 26 PERFECT babies.

Unfortunately, there were no Albinos.

Paul Hollander May 20, 2008 10:52 AM

Wow! The probability of no albinos in that litter is 0.000000000004. Much less likely than winning the lottery. I wonder if one parent came out of a Kahl albino line and the other came out of a Sharp albino line. That could explain it.

The coin landed tails 38 times. Wow! you were just as likely to end up with all females(which has happened too)

Damn enter key.....

As Paul posted astronomical odds and as Geckomill posted, The coin landed tails 38 times.

Has anyone seen the other extreme? Albino bred to het and all albino babies?? Especially with a large litter?

Not in BCI, but in Bloods I bred an albino x het and out of 10 babies got 9 albinos. In sandboas I bred an axanthic male x het axanthic female and out of 10 babies got 10 axanthics. For sure my biggest luck was 8 super motleys out of 19 babies, but that is kind of close to the 1/4 from 19 maybe get 5, still amazing luck. I have had some major and notable whiffs though taking ages to get what I wanted!! Ball pythons forget about it!!! I don't want to jinx too much, I'm waiting on a motley x motley litter!
