good amount of calcium for your lizard.

collaredsguy May 19, 2008 11:24 PM

how do you gage how much calcium your lizard needs, or doesnt. i always used the urates as a guage, but how do i know if their getting to much or not enough.does the size of the urate matter, or is thier a way of telling? should i follow the instructions on the repti cal jar, or is there a better way to do it? i dust every feeding, is that too much? to much calcium is just as bad as too little so how do i find the happy medium??

You can overdo calcium, so the best advice is to dust just one feeding a day a few times per week for adults, and about 5 days per week for babies. If you are using a MVB, you don't want to use calcium with D3, but of you are using a florescent UVB tube, then you need the calcium with D3.

Here is a very good article on Metabolic bone Disease, written by a well respected and very experienced herper. If you read this and have questions, let me know. I will try to explain it a bit further.

ha one step ahead of you!! already read it!! eve has a link to it on her site!! but i will tone down on the calcium. i use dont use the vitamin dust everyday i do it every other feeding. when i thro a bunch of crickets in they are all dusted, but she doesnt eat them all, so i just leave those in there.they last about two days. the dust kinda just falls off. so i guess not every day but every time i put crickets in.

rosebuds i was wondering if i could contact you privately like an email or something so if i had some questions i could ask you as well as other people on this forum. i have other emails like eves, but your knowledge is really good, so i can use you as a source as well. thanks. seems like every question i ask now becomes a conflict point and disrupts the forum. i dont mind this, its just that this conflict disrupts the my posts and the forums.

Yes, Darlin'. All you have to do is click on my user name at the top of one of my posts and just fill in the blanks. If that doesn't work, just go to my web site:

I don't recognize your name, but don't know all the members here. Do you keep collareds? If so, how many and for how long? You speak of general husbandry practices with blanket statements that the right conditions are all you need, but give no specifics.
