Damien - Black Mexican Kingsnake

RavenSkyfire May 21, 2008 01:40 AM

I went to check on Damien tonight because I knew he was due to shed any day. He was in his hide but I could see him moving aound and i could see that there was shed skin in there with him. So I lifted up the hide because I was gonna get rid of the skin only to find that he had just started shedding. I took him out and let him slither through my hands to get the rest of the skin off. Here is a pic of him freshly shed (taken about five minutes after the skin came off):

Just for size comparison, here is a picture of him the day that I got him. The water dish next to him is the bottom of your typical water cooler paper cup:

Here's a pic from about two weeks ago. He can suck down three of these size mice at each feeding (yes I know that is probably a sign that he needs to go up to the next size mouse, I'm just trying to get rid of the size that I currently have in the freezer). I'm beginning to think that Tom sold me a bottomless pit instead of a snake!! LOL He'll even eat when he is in deep blue.

And here is a picture of his house. It's a 29 gallon.

Anyways, I still can't thank Tom enough for sending me such a beautiful and awesome snake!!!!!

I love to see my snakes thriving in a good home. He looks just awesome! His momma is gravid and due any day. I actually just bought a new female since these are so popular.Once again I have to say RIGHT ON! Great job, he is just perfect.

It's so cool when you catch them shedding! I got Belle shedding on video. Fascinating.

manda, I wouldn't change a thing! Having several of Tom's "Hoovers"myself, first let me say, best choice! second, more smaller sized meals seem to agree with it, and third, for a snake to be as handleable as that one seems, you are gonna have a great snake for years to come! There is just something really deep about a jet black snake with that kind of iridescence!
