Reluctant Feeder

ryuman1 May 21, 2008 09:10 PM

Ive had this two young snakes for a while. One is insane, almost taking a finger even with forceps. The other, however, is extremely reluctant. It smells the pinkie and wants it but then backs away scared. I've tried everything: checked temps bumping(scared it more) scenting(anoles and geckos) braining(messy still didn't work) small part of the pinkie. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!!! I want to pick it up and shove the mouse down its throught(I would NEVER do this, it just has me so frustrated). I'm going to try wild anoles as prey even though I would rather not. Any more suggestions?

I forgot to say,
This is not a non-feeder. The snake will eat when given ALOT of time alone in a small container with the pinkie. But is there anything that can make it feel comfortable with eating?

Some snakes just like to take their time. My kingsnake can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before he finishes eating because he likes his privacy when dining.

I would not use wild anoles because they can carry parasites that could get your snake sick.

I have a baby no matter what i did i couldnt get it to eat either. My first corn was and still is an excellent feeder. but this one had me going crazy. no matter how long i kept it in the little container with the pinkie. Then quite by accident i figured out the trick for mine. For some reason if im holding him and twist my hand so that the pinkie in the cup is practically pushed up to his nose he'll take it. Sometimes of course he just moves lol but its the only way i get him to eat regularly.

This probably wont work for anyone else, lol i probably just have a weird snake, but i thought id put it in. Its quite a pain too cause i have to keep really still while he takes it and gently put him back in the cage afterwards.
