for those of you that have them what do you like or dislike about the different heights of the boaphiles, other than the space saving of the 11.5
thanks

I have both sizes. What I like about the 17.5 model is that it is easier to take bigger girls out. Also, taking top view pictures of them is better too.

It does not matter what size YOU prefer some one will always want it something"a little bigger" or a "little smaller" I make vivs over here in the UK and do 3 height sizes. 300, 380 and 420.
I personally prefer a 380 height for my females and 300 for my males.I think the whole deal depends on how much room you have?

which is nice.

I have one 17.5 inch one with a shelf that I have produced babies in twice. The arabesque female in it seems to like going back and forth from the shelf.

It is easier to get them out of the bigger one... easier to clean as well.

It all depends on how much room one has. If I had plenty of room for all my boas to be in 17.5 inchers I would... but I dont. So all the rest of my purchases have been 11.5 inchers... which do great as well.

I'd strictly use the taller cages with the shelf. But for me it ends up being more a matter of space, so I mostly have the cheaper 11.5" tall cages. Both work just as well for making babies though. The really large females really seem to appreciate the taller cage. Most don't poop on the shelf choosing rather to come down when the need arises and 80% of the time give birth down below as well. Taking pictures of the animals in the cage is a lot easier with the taller cages. No getting around that one.

Are all of your breeder females housed in your four foot models or one of your expandable six or eight foot cages?

boaphile May 22, 2008 03:16 PM

65% are in the 4' cages. The others are in 4' X 2.5' X 17.5" tall cages with a shelf.

I love the smaller height ones so I can get more into my room

For the animals that I need more space to work with, the 17.5's are great. Some animals "pose" better and I like having them in the 17.5's.

However, I keep most everything in 11.5's because they're easy to work with and/or spend most of their time hiding.
