Baby pictures (please post)

RandyWhittington May 22, 2008 12:28 PM

This forum has been EXTREMELY slow lately so I thought I would try and stir things up some. These are all baby pictures from the last couple years. Everyone please join in and post pics of baby ratsnakes you produced or bought in the last few years. This is a little bimaculata to get it started. Randy Whittington

I love this shot. These are Sichuan Province, China mandarins.

DMong May 22, 2008 01:50 PM

Gott'a love those mandarina!....that reminds me,....are you aware that the Sichuan Province was the epicenter of that huge killer earthquake over in China?,.......I believe it was a 7.9, and was EXTREMELY devastating!.....what a disaster!

I heard about the earthquake. I know it killed a lot of people and did some severe damage to the area. Very sad. RW

Those are sweet animals!,....my girlfriend was thinking about buying me a pair for my birthday many years ago, but they were a little too pricey for her to afford back then around 12 years ago at $300-$350 each, and with only a couple people breeding them back then in the U.S..

Nice little situla! Is that one from this year? I put my adult pair together this spring, but did not see definate hook-up. The female did not seem to be in the mood, but the male sure was!LOL The female is looking a little chubby, and they were cooled together, so maybe...

Nice little bimac, Randy.

I bred my bimacs this year, but the female is having trouble laying. She has dropped three little slugs since Tuesday, and still has two larger eggs inside. I hope she passes them soon.

RandyWhittington May 22, 2008 10:30 PM

I get one or two bad eggs, two or three days before getting some good eggs sometimes. Given time I'm sure your girl will pass them on her own. I had a coxi lay two bad eggs, followed by a good egg about a week later, followed by two more bad and another good one another week later. That was just over a month ago and both good eggs are still good. I always just leave females alone and have not lost a female of any species from egg binding in several years now. RW

tbrock May 23, 2008 07:08 PM

Thanks for sharing your experience, Randy. This is the first time I have bred bimaculata, and the female is a first time breeder, which always makes me a little nervous. I was about to assume the worst and get her a shot of oxytocin, but I will wait a little while now. She seems to have settled into her nesting box finally, and does not really seem to be in any distress. She was roaming nervously during the last few days, and just dropped those slugs anywhere. I guess I am too used to corns and emoryi having perfect, easy clutches, and anything else sort of freaks me out. LOL

BTW, I think it is a good possibilty that my female calico taeniurus is gravid, and in the pre-laying shed phase.
