Artax laid her eggs!

waspinator421 May 22, 2008 02:32 PM

Artax finally laid three eggs today. One is obviously a slug, and the other two look really bizarre. They are covered in little bumps. I'd seen a few of these bumps on one or two of my other eggs, but never covering the whole thing. Does this mean she was lacking calcium? Other than the wierd bumps they look and feel good. I guess I will know for sure in a week or two if I can see veins forming.

I am just so happy she laid them, she waited almost 2 weeks after her shed and I was starting to get worried.

Congrats Aubrey. Dont sweat the"bumps" its called snowflaking. Happens alot. Here's to getting two health strong babies from that clutch...although you wont make much of a dent in your waiting list at that rate!

Thanks! That's good to know about the bumps. I've never heard of the term "snowflaking". What causes those bumps anyway? I can't imagine they make passing those eggs very comfortable, lol.

Yeah, definetely won't make much of a dent in the list, lol!

Congratulations, Aubrey! The two eggs look good -- may the embryos be with you!

congrats!!! as for the eggs.... i have some corn eggs that have that "speckling". they arent laid like that, but they dry up with those bumps... i know b/c i caught my girl in the act of laying and took each egg out as she laid. i put the eggs in the vermiculite just so and after drying they got the bumps... i think its extra calcium build-up or something... doesnt seem to harm the eggs or the babies that hatch out
