I photo'd this little retic in situ while doing research and exploring some new roads...a photo record of this little guy was advisable, thought you all might enjoy. Also we saw two Berlander's tortoises, a whip snake, several Sceleporus consibrinus, and other spiny's, as well as several whiptail lizards. It was a great day....it was 86 degrees about 1:30 in the afternoon, on a hard packed cliche road I estimated its length at about 8 to 9 inches.

I tried emailing you a few weeks back, but received no response--I ran out of time to hit S TX with y'all. I'll be at the HCU "campout" the first weekend in June, and the WTHS field meet the weekend after that. You or Randy going to attend either?

These lizards are not active until the temps are around 84 degrees or above, usually 90 degrees and above are better.... Yes it is the Reticulate Collared Lizard.

what species of collared? eastern, western?thats awesome ive never seen that.

reptoman May 23, 2008 06:39 AM

(Crotaphytus reticulatus) The Reticulate Collared Lizard found in South Texas and a threatened specie. Not very common. Ranges in from the Mexican border the closer to the border the more pronounced the populations, but even then they are scarce except in some few areas.....
