Hi does anyone know where I can purchase large sheets of plexi glass and how big is it. How much do they sell for thanks.
Don't know how much you want to spend. But, I used to work in a sign shop and I ordered 3x8 sheets for around $60. I ordered from Cadilac plastics out of L.A. but you can get it at any sign supply outlet.
Plexiglas and other types of acrylic usually come in 4 x 8 sheets but like other plastics occasionally come in off sizes, like 4 x 12 or 5 x 10.
Where you live determines where you should look for acrylic. If in or near a big city, then plastic distributors will be far have the best deals. If you live in a smaller town and can't drive to a big city and transport sheet goods, then glass shops are usually second best. You'll need to call around and get prices from several shops. I'm certain you'll find significant variation in how expensive a full sheet is among your local shops.
When you call around I would not ask for Plexiglas unless you know that is the specific product you need. And even then I think Plexiglass makes three different grades of acrylic. I would simply ask for the cost on acrylic sheet in the thickness you need. Then I would be very firm and ask for EXACTLY what brand and product it is they are selling.
Acrylic is a very commonly used and stocked plastic, as such there are a lot of products out there. Some are not very good and I think you'll need to find out what products are available and then do you own research online as to what product you want for your application.
On that note, I also need to point out that Plexiglas has become such a common trade name for acrylic that when you call shops and ask for it they will often sell you regular acrylic, even if its of less quality than the common Plexiglas. You really need to be specific about finding out what they carry.
The last time I ordered Plexiglass I went to a shop that previously only carried Plexiglass and no other type of acrylic. So I just ordered Plexiglas and left it at that. I was not happy when I picked up my order and found out it was generic acrylic and a low quality one at that.
Mail order is also a possibility but shipping is brutal. I would not even look into this unless you need three sheets or more.
