Best idea for sliding glass doors

jeffharding May 23, 2008 02:11 PM

I am building a top to my Sav cage and looking to add a front window section. it is 8 feet wide, 4 feet tall. I was thinking of just buying a huge sliding glass window where both sides slide, but can i just get two pieces of glass/plexi/acrylic and either notch a track in the wood or buy a track? Whats the best way?

I don't have any experience building a sliding door that large. My gut reaction is that typical plastic sliding track won't work real well. If notching a piece of wood, you'd have to make sure it was quite straight and flat to insure that each 4x4 panel would slide well.

The upshot is that I think either the window approach or a roller based aluminum track would work best for this application. Amazon is a good place for buying roller track so do some searching over there.
