Help with "Eating Machine" rack

eric_s Aug 31, 2003 05:01 PM

Thanks for the feedback longtang and Mark, I just suck at building things so I was trying to get all the help I can get. Longtangs pics helped alot thanks. Also where do you stick the thermostat prope if your controlling the temps of several tubs???
and do you just tape the heat tape directly to the back or is it between two sheets of wood?
Thanks for the help
Eric

Hi Eric!

I attatch the heat tape to the back of the shelves and then place the unit backing on the back of it. The tubs are directly against the heat tape.

The probe is set directly on the heat tape and set at 95. This should provide a hot spot of about 90 degrees F in the rear of the compartment. When I first set one up I leave one compartment empty and place a temp guage in the rear and fine tune the thermostat until I have my desired temp.

Good luck!

Right. That is correct. On mine, the tubs touch directly on the heat tape. I don't have the heat tape sandwiched between two pieces of wood (Boaphile racks, on the other hand, do). I just attached the heat tape to the backing before I screwed the backing to the rack.

cheers

Here is a pic of my new "eating machine" rack that I recently built. Of course, thanks goes to Markus Jayne for the idea and design. I just configured mine slightly. But I know why he calls it the "eating machine" that's for sure. It's done wonders.

I bought sheets of mealmine from Lowe's and had them cut it to the sizes I needed, which saved a bunch of time. I used aluminum foil tape to attach the heat tape to the pegboard in the rear of the rack. Heat gradient works perfectly.

Hope that helps some. Good luck
