I was just wondering if anyone medicates their animal by medicating the feeders, or if thats even a remotely good idea?

i do it once a month, if i have RI rats even nursing moms, i place antibotics in their water, you can get them at a livestock store, there is also water soluable vitamins i use, these are both good items to use, but the water bottles gather algea fast, so i wash once or twice a week and don't mix the two in the same bottle, it turns it nasty brown and they won't drink it. the exact names someone can come up with but i think one is tetocycline(sp) yellow and white foil bag. the RI clears up nicely too i might add if caught early enough.

But can you inject drugs into your rats and will it have the same value as if it were given orally so you can reduce stress? I suppose this would only work with medications that are given no more frequently than once a week unless the breakdown would be slower and proportional, but that might be hard to determine exactly
