For SHvar, Lucien, and MeretSeger...read this article

Notably, second to last subheading which says.."From Lizard Venom to diabetes drug." next line down.."Gila monsters are poisonous lizards." Now there it is from Daniel DeNoon, senior writer for WebMd Health magazine, a well respected online medical resource. If you want to argue this with him or any of their staff by all means go for it. However I doubt any of you have either the balls or credentials, but knock yourselves out. I'm really tired of arguing with people who are unable to read or comprehend a definition in the dictionary which says it plain as day. Either the word venomous or poisonous would have been appropriate in the context that I used, also in the exact manner that Daniel DeNoon used it. Lucien you can steal my line again, and say that I am "arguing just for the sake of arguing," but this really isn't an argument. I'm right and you're wrong. Quit crying and deal with it.

I know I wasn't specifically invited to this conversation, but geez this is getting silly.
Let's try the good 'ol American Heritage Dictionary:

Venomous: Secreting and Transmitting Venom. A Venomous snake.

Poisonous: Capable of killing or harming by poison; toxic or venomous.

Which of these two more accurately describes an animal that has and utilizes venom?

And BTW: The world of human medical knowledge often doesn't know beans about Venomous reptiles. I read a journal only a few years ago that finally agreed Gila Monsters do not blow out poisonous gas.

And he called me a troll.... *smirks* He's going to keep on as long as we pay attention to him... and I plan on ignoring him after I say this last thing..

Are you that gullible that you believe everything you read? Talk to any herpetologist and they will correct you on your usage of poisonous for any venemous reptile or even animal. Venemous is the correct term to use regarding an animal that produces toxins that will actively inject into the body of another animal.

Just because someone who's a senior writer uses the term doesn't mean he's using it correctly. Its like Reptiles Magazine.. they can print an article on Bosc monitors but that doesn't mean their information is necessarily right.

You need to grow up just a bit. And when you do, I hope you've learned something because you obviously know very little right now.

I figured I'd repost my answer since they took the other topic off..
