Found This Little One- What Is It?

SneakySnakesINC May 23, 2008 09:56 PM

Hey guys,

My boyfriend and I found this little one in the yard today. He's about 6 inches long and a little less than an inch wide, with a light brown color and a white underbelly. He also has a great disposition! Any idea what kind of snake it is? I've never seen one like this before, almost looks like a little worm!

Thanks for the reply! I was looking at an identification site and saw that one, I thought it could be one of those but I wasn't sure.

Thanks again!

I think it is a smooth earth snake. The fine black speckles on the neck are more distinctive and the scales in the pic look smooth. The actually eat worms!

Make that one more vote for Smooth Earthsnake, in case there is still any doubt. I've never seen that sort of striping on a Rough Earthsnake.

If you have a headshot, you can tell the difference by counting labial scales, like this (smooth on top, rough on bottom) -
