My Friday....new racks!!!!!

rainbowsrus May 24, 2008 02:35 AM

Got my CB110 racks from AP cages today, here's how I started my memorial day weekend.....

Fresh off the truck, Very well packed and made the trip with no damage whatsoever!!

After taking off the outer wrapping, again a very neat packing job.

Every piece was grouped as one of four units and each piece labeled exactly where and how it goes together.

Assembly process, one side and the top

Add in the the other side

Start adding shelves

all the shelves added

Attached the front casters

And then the front kick plate

In the middle of removing all the labels, came right off

Rolled the rack so back is up, on top is the pre-asembled dual side radient heat.

After slipping the heat tape into the sides, you tape it at the top with aluminum tape

Then at the bottom, more tape and double sided tape on the connector shrouds.

Attach the back,

Roll on one side

and stand it up and voila, ten tub CB 110 rack!!

I actually got four, the two with tubs are for the new room and go right where they are, the other two without tubs yet are for the old room once I clear all the boa stuff out.

Well, the entire pallet with four racks was just under 800 lbs but the pallet itself was prolly pushing 100 lbs by itself so quick estimate is 175 lbs per rack.

It is a new version, The first ones they've made that size. They already had a shorter one designed for another customer so was simply a matter of extending the sides/back/heat tape. And of course more shelves but no new design there, just cut more of them.

I'm thinking I'm going to tweak them before I ever use them, I like dual temp zones on my racks so thinking about re-doing the flexwatt to have the bottom 5 shelves be one zone and the top be another. BUT, in order to be able to assemble, both will have to be powered from the middle. I'm thinking I can just cut the outer conductor on each side leaving the heat tape whole but electrically disconnected, then solder onto it on either side of the cuts. Yeah, I know, prolly leave a 1/4" gap so no arcing.

Oh to have a CNC mill, or even access to one...

The picture of the back looks like a slightly different color. Is it a different material?

One more question...

Weren't you considering the Iris CB-75 instead of the CB-110 at one point?

Just curious if you ever got the chance to actually see one of those in person and compare the floor area? It looks like they'd be pretty close. I believe I had Eric from ReptileTubs.com measure the actual floor area for me once and the CB-75 was a bit bigger.

Never did see a CB75, found the CB110's locally available a couple of years ago so went with them.

Nice, Dave,......... real nice.

Movin' on up in the world, 'eh?

I'll be there next weekend to help you celebrate by takin' that boat out bass fishin'. Either that or you can come here to NC and help me trim the weeds away from around mine and we'll take it out.

Take care!
