Goat Spot King

elaphopeltishow May 24, 2008 10:47 AM

For those fortunate enough to have pulled a King from this little spot in Va. you know how nice they usually are. How'd that sign get in that cage though? Hmmmm.

What's the deal?,....are you crossing sticticeps with locality Okeetees now?..hahaha!!(kidding of course!)

Is "Goat Spot" one of the islands in the northern Outer Banks chain?

Hey Doug, I shouldn't be too revealing about a particularly good spot, but it's here in the Tidewater area of Va and quite often the Kings from here have lots of white speckling, ala Outerbanks Kings. Of course if you ever get to my neck of the woods, we'll hit the area and you'll know why it's called the goat spot.

So what you're saying is, I'll have to clean the bottoms of my shoes thoroughly afterwards!???..LOL!!

And make sure to put any fresh caught Kings in with other Kings so they can bond. The spot is next to a Goat Farm. MMMM good eats.

Wow,...sounds like plenty of munch material for the snakes in that vicinity too.....sounds like a very promising area.

It is in a great area. It abuts(uhh huh huh I said "butt" a river system, which is where they are wandering in from. If they avoid being trampled by the goats they have some nice secure cover to mellow out, philosophize, plan their next meal, or do whatever snakes do when they aren't starving or have the horns on.

Howie, do you do any June herping if it's not too hot? My kids will be gone the whole month after school lets out and I was hoping that you, Steve and I (and whoever else) could hit some spots. I'll buy first round of beer and wings afterwards!!

elaphopeltishow May 24, 2008 12:55 PM

I usually stop herping in mid june as there is just too much understory to see much, the insects are at full strength, and its so darned hot. I will make an exception , though , for you guys. Give me more details. Howie PS Hows those OB Kings doing and have any current pics?

I loved the goat spot. Brad has a monster 6 footer I gave him from there.

Jose, the lil dude that owned the goats, moved all the boards.

Tis no more.

sad.

I discovered all the missing cover AFTER I almost fell off the rocky side of the overpass and cracked my skull open.

Wheee.

THE GOAT SPOT -- I remember it well. It's quite the vacation spot. Plenty of running water, boards and tins to flip, good food just down the road, and for the adventurous type, goat HERDING is available for those who leave the dang field door open (you know who you are, LMFAO!). Howie, that big handsome male eastern is as tame as a puppy and has yet to shed out. Good times brother, good times. But funny as hell. I'll get a pic up as soon as he sheds.
