F/T as first meal

PhillyBoyInTN May 25, 2008 12:43 AM

Has anybody successfully fed F/T rats (pinkies or fuzzies) to a hatchling for it's 1st meal (and every thereafter) or do most have to feed live first and switch over?

I start all mine on F/T and that is all I feed except for the ones that come into my Rescue that were on live and will not convert , and I have 4 of them all wild caught snakes and 1 monitor . David

Some will start on f/t fuzzies-forget the pinks, they'll usually ignore them. Warm them up and offer on forceps the first time....

How do you warm yours up and do you assist feed or do they take it on there own?

Doesn't matter how you warm them-light bulb or heat tape (take it from me-do NOT try the microwave ). Some will take it on their own, but some will need to be assist fed.

At least for a first meal, live rat fuzzies or mouse crawlers are much more effective.

Live mouse hoppers, dark room, left in with the snake for about 30 minutes. They like the movement.
