feeding question (problem?)

Shaky May 25, 2008 09:51 AM

My daughter acquired our first gecko a week ago as a rescue.
It's a large male.
So far it has not eaten. Is this a concern?
His tail is round and fat.
Set-up: 10g, calci-sand substrate, most hide over heat, dry hide away from heat, food-bowl, calcium lick, and misted enclosure for water.

Need to change anything?
Thanks

sounds like you have most of it right. leos dont need to be misted. you can just give them a little water dish and they will be fine. I am also leary of calci-sand because it has been known to cause impaction. I use ceramic tile or papertowel for my substrates. But any subsrtate that cannot be eaten either on purpose or by mistake is best.. oh, and if your leo looks fat and healthy, it probably isnt a big deal that he hasnt eaten yet. geckos tend to not eat for a while after being moved into a new setup. how long has it been since you got him? in my experience it can take up to a week for a gecko to adjust and start eating normally again, but it varies from animal to animal. good luck..
