Is she going to lay?

ROC May 25, 2008 02:01 PM

This is my first time breeding grey banded kingsnakes, and first time breeding snakes period. I got a pair of greybands this year and have been putting them together. Today, I noticed the female had regurged a mouse she ate 5 days ago (not the whole thing, partly digested and parts just came out). She is also in the blue now, which if she was gravid is a bout right considering when I put them together. I was just wondering if this may be a sign that she is gravid. The female is thicker than the male, and I have been feeding them both the same amount, but being my first time I can't really determine if this is because she's gravid or just got feed a little to much. How much time before laying will I be able to feel eggs inside her if she is gravid. Thanks a lot.

As far as I know regurgitation is not an indicator of your female being gravid and/or ready to lay.. Of course I am not saying she may not be gravid.. Although, 5 days is a long time for a regurge.. What temp do you keep her at?

I understand some females tend to go off feed when gravid, so I was hoping that somehow her continuing to eat while possibly being gravid and regurging makes up for whatever effects fasting has, I don't know, I'm just really eager for some eggs! Anyway, later today she also defecated, so she digested a lot of the mouse. These are kept at room temp with a hot spot in the upper 80's. Everything else with that same set up didn't have any digestion problems. Like I said, I'm a first timer so any advice is greatly appreciated. It's interesting you replied to me, Mike, these are actually some of your animals, but you wouldn't know me since I picked them up this year as adults from someone who was thinning out their collection.

usually gravid snakes lose their appetite.....due to the eggs constricting the digestive system(its all under hormone control...my theory)....its very possible a good feeding snake might feed and if the item is too large .....it might be released...
