Which Boa Book?

Homeslice31 May 25, 2008 09:03 PM

I want to find some detailed info, specifically on breeding boa constrictors. The web pages i've found are not detailed enough, Here are two titles from Amazon:
Complete Boa Constrictor: A Comprehensive Guide to the Care, Breeding, and Geographic Races by Vincent Russo or Captive Husbandry and Propagation of the Boa Constrictors and Related Boas by David Fogel. P.s. I've already read The Boa Constrictor Manual (The Herpetocultural Library) by Philippe De Vosjoli, Roger Klingenberg, Jeff Ronne, and Philippe De Vosjoli. Which do you suggest? Do you have any good links? Thanks

Both are excellent books and both have great info on breeding. Vin's book does cover more topics and is a more "complete" book as the title suggests. If you're looking for breeding info, get both books because each book will tell you things that the other does not. However, if you want to buy only one book, get Vin Russo's. His book also has 10 times the number of photos. You won't be disappointed. To date, it's hands down the best book on boas.---------RON

I concur. Russo's book is a must have, especially if you only intend to buy one "serious" (not pet trade oriented)boa book.

I also read on the back of The Boa Constrictor Manual that Jeff Ronne has produced several videos including one on boa constrictor breeding. I couldn't find it on the web. Does anyone know of this video?

Russo's , Hands down. Anything to be read is good, but Vince's book is update and a good read. I found that even though it is an easy read, you have to be careful. I have read it several times and not lost intreast. I think it's the way he words things. Anyway, full of good info.
