Should I Panic??

beardedbren May 25, 2008 09:32 PM

Hi, I've been keeping my incubator full of 18 perfect eggs in my basement. Its been at a constant 82-84 degrees since the day i put them in.
Here's the story: I'm in a band and we have all of our instruments in the basement. We had a show yesterday and someone bumped the plug on my incubator while we were moving equipment. I didn't notice till today that it had dropped down to 65!!!! for a good 20 hours or so. (Because I was at work all day today.) I'm bringing the temps back right now, but am I doomed? Should I worry about birth defects or anything? The eggs were laid May 9th. I know its ok for eggs to hit room temp, but 65 degrees? I'm not sure. Please any advice would help.

At this point there is nothing you can do but wait it out and hope for the best. Being in a panic won't do anything but cause yourself stress. This is a mistake that you will learn from and pay a little attention to. I had a similia problem about two weeks ago but it was the opposite. My a/c broke and when I came home from work my house was in the high 90s. I hope nothing went wrong with my eggs as well good luck.

since its not a constant fluctuation of temps they should be ok. i had a simliar experience a few years ago when my power went out during a bad storm. the temp dropped to the low 70s. as long as they have spent most of their time as the right temps they should be fine. cooler temps are better than temps that are too hot. ive actually heard of some people incubating their dragons at cooler temps for longer times. remember, temps in the wild do change as well.

its better to keep an incubator somewhere in the house where the temps stay in the mid 70s in my opinion. this way if something like this happeneds they dont get too cold nor too hot if the ac goes out like the other poster said.
