Having Issues

rottenweiler9 May 25, 2008 10:42 PM

OK, so I am having some problems. If there is one thing I know its I know nothing. Need some help. My basement is usually around 65 degrees.

Let me know if you think this is to hot.

I have two 6ft vision cages. My retics never shed in once peice in fact, I only have a couple snakes that do shed in one. I know this is a problem. So I changed from newspaper to kraft paper, and now currently am using Aspen. I spray it at night with one of those chemical sprayers so I make sure to get it good.

The back of the cages are covered for the most part except for the last 6/7 inches. I have two 50 watt heat lamps going on one side. On the far side I have a heat panel that takes up the last 1/3 of the cage at 90 degrees. Floor temp gets up to 96-100 depends on the spot. One thought I had was to change the heat panel to 84-85 degrees? But I am afriad the middle of the cage will get to cold.

Any suggestions of what I am doing wrong. Its driving me crazy that I can never get sheds in one peice, and this could lead to other health issues. As my one retic had RI, that is why I changed to aspen for humidity.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong.

Thank you

Jeff

Hey Jeff, I sure do not know it all either but I'll give ya my 2 cents. None of my retics have full sheds either. They are kept in my snake room with many other snakes ; burms, balls, bloods and 2 boas. I've been told that it is very very hard for a retic to get RI. My room stays in the 84 to 86 degree range. I have no hot spots in my cages and I mist every other day. I've done this for many years and this works for me. I mist my retics daily when they are in shed and they still do not have full sheds. Hoped this helped if any
