Didn't know she was gravid.... help?

Roe May 26, 2008 07:01 AM

Was pleasantly surprised to find that my albino laid eggs last night. I had placed a couple of males with her but never saw any breeding activity, so this caught me off guard. One egg was off to the side, but it appears that she has three or four that she's tending. Fascinating to watch her do her twitches...
I would prefer to place the eggs in an incubator, but my efforts to unwind her and remove the eggs have been rebuffed. I'm afraid the eggs will be damaged if I keep trying. Any ideas on how I might deal with this would be appreciated.
Push comes to shove, I'll try to manipulate the conditions in the cage to optimum and see what happens.
All the best-
Jim Lineberger

Congrats on the eggs Jim, she's a great looking mom.Unless you already have your incubator set up with the temps. and proper humidity dialed in, I would just leave them in with her, if you can maintain the temps. and high humidity within the cage I believe she will do the rest.

Oddly enough, I did have an incubator up and running due to another Blood that I had hoped was gravid. SO--I get to incubate one egg and let Momma incubate the rest. This will be an educational experience for me.

Enjoy the day-

Ok, good luck with them Jim.
I would say the eggs will be fine with her.

Checked on her this morning and she was in a different position on the eggs. I lifted her gently and she allowed me to remove the eggs without problem. Only 6 total, and three look to be non-viable, but I'm thrilled.
Thanks-
Jim
