I remember HOT meaning venomous snake but what does it stand for/mean again?

Same for het.

"Hot" = slang for venomous

"het" = short for heterozygous,...meaning that an animal(snake in this case) is a recessive gene carrier for a trait, or traits, but is NOT expressing the trait, or traits visually, e.g. simply put, if you breed two normal "looking" snakes that are "het" for the same type of amelanism(albinism)you will then produce a percentage of them that are "homozygous"(visually expressing the trait).

"homozygous" = an animal(snake in this case)that IS expressing a certain trait, or traits visually, e.g. an albino snake with pink eyes is homozygous for amelanism(no melanin, dark pigment).

The link below will help you with some additional genetic terms.
