Branches for a young beardie?

djfuente Aug 31, 2003 07:19 PM

OK, so I bought my beardie, AKA "Giblet", at the show yesterday and I think that the branches which I have in there distract him from eating. He really enjoys to be up in them basking most of the day unless I take him down to eat some crix. It's not that he doesn't have an appetite because he'll eat any crix that come up and walk near him, but he just doesn't hunt them. I know his temps are good and it's not even that he basks under the lights most of the time, he just likes to lay there. I'm just kinda worried because I know everyone here says that their young ones eat like 20 to 40 crix a day while Giblet just ate like 10-12 small ones today.

Since you've only had him a day, he's undoubtably still stressed from the change.
Give him a few days to get used to his new surroundings and I'm sure his appetite will pick up.

Exactly what was said........and sometimes also keeping it simple can be best. For young dragons I keep it very simple........just a basking rock. A flat rock or a roundish rock will suffice or even a piece of wood, and that way the crix are right there. Chris

Something else you might try after he gets settled in, is to get a separate cage for feeding crickets. Then he will be able to get them easy and not have them crawl all over him stressing him out in his real home.
Good luck...

our 4 month old still only eats about 14 crix a day. any more than that and we have to take them out because he won't eat them.
he seems very healthy and happy!!
