O/T Backyard Surprise

After seeing some of the bird pictures from Jared and Matt, I thought I'd share this one. You can really tell the difference between my point and shoot camera and the quality photo they get with good equipment and skill.

After previewing the post, it looks better than I thought.

super cool mike. i love owls. we have some in our neighborhood, that call to each other several times a week. ours are quite big and i think are great horned owls. ive seen one of them take off from one tree and fly to another. when they call to each other my dog goes off his rocker trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. you are quite lucky to get a picture. thanx for sharing.

I was most of the way up a 12 ft ladder for the picture. I didn't know if an owl would get mad and somehow attack. I was a little nervous.

M y point and shoot has it's limitations. I was too far away for the flash and without it auto focus wouldn't work. That picture came later in the day after there was more light. I haven't had a good camera since we were using 35mm slides.

My parents have a mating pair of Barred owls in their backyard. This past nesting and fledging season my parents and their dog were attacked several times by the parents. My dad even had to go to the ER for a tetanus shot.

If you have never heard them hoot or scream, it's scary they sound like a monster

That's a great picture and much more realistic than the owls Jared and I got at the petting zoo...oops!

That would explain the close-up shots. It must be one heck of a petting zoo if the have eagles in flight.
