It seems that many of you have rescues as pets which is great. How many of you have rescues and how many do you have. I feel bad for iguanas because I see them at shows and you know they just sell them to anyone with 20 bucks with no regard for the fact that in a few years they will just about need an entire room to theirself. Thanks. EP

I have 2 iguanas but neither are rescues. There is a little female C. Similis up for adoption that I would like to have but she has been promised to someone else. I don't want her for breeding. Just to see mine and her interact.

In the last 8 years I think we've probably taken in about 100 Green Iguanas as rescues or surrenders. Currently we're caring for 27. Of those 27, 6 are permanent residents. Two of those six have been with us for 5-6 years.

Jiffypop,

You and your associates in Reptile Rescue are awesome.

You need to do 2 of 3 things, let me help make some money for the rescue (at the very least use some of my ideas), let me adopt that little female C. Simils or let me know about the C. Palearis.

See you on the 13th,
Debra

That's a very interesting phrase! I have never heard it before. It pretty much sums up how we have raised our "scalely green daughter". We didn't know much about how to raise an iguana, so we raised her like we would a human child. After two years, as far as daughters go, she still looks like an iguana. As far as iguanas go, however, she acts like a human daughter. She does not bite, tail whip, need a leash when we walk her outside for her daily sun and exercise, and is good around strangers. People, including the "igsperts", seem to underestimate their intelligence, also.

In the James Hatfeild iguana book, there is a scale he comes up with, for iguana "wildness". Level 1 is a tame iguana, level 50 is the Green Monster from hell. We think our Iggi is a level zero. She trys hard NOT to hurt us. If I'm wearing pants, and Iggi wants on me, she will just crawl up my leg. If I am wearing shorts, though, she will jump up and catch onto my shorts, so as not to scratch up my legs.

My First guy I adopted Through Green Iguana Society. He's My Ambassador Ig. He's the sweetest little (4 feet) man around!) LOL My Second one is a rescue. Someone dumped Him at a Local Petco. He has slight MBD (Sores are gone now!!! ) and a REALLY Bad attitude.... He's only about 2 feet long which Made Me think He was only a yearling or so... But after seeing some of His behavior (Breeding Season) and talking to a couple rescuers, We think He's older (2, maybe 3 years old)and stunted from the MBD and lack of proper care from His former owner/s. We took Him with the understanding that We'd adopt Him out after He was better and tamed a little.... Well, He's better and has an even worse attitude then before! LOL So He's mine also.
