Question about disinfecting a small spot quick

rich_123 Aug 31, 2003 07:52 PM

Sometimes, one of my BTS smears some feaces onto the walls of the enclosure. I'm wondering what would be the best thing to do about this. I was thinking about using a paper towel or cotton ball dabbed with Nolvasan, but read it is toxic if ingested so that concerns me. The only other thing I can think of is using rubbing alcohol in the place of Nolvasan, but I'm not sure if that is strong enough on potential parasites. Then again, I don't know if Nolvasan has any effect on parasite eggs either. Let me know what you think. Thanks to all those who reply.

Hi,

We usually just wipe up the feces with a damp paper towel and disinfect the enclosure once a week. It isn't necessary to keep everything constantly sterile, otherwise how will your lizard build antibodies for its immune system?

However, if the lizard makes a really huge mess, pure peroxide works really well for quick disinfecting and you don't have to rinse, as it doesn't leave a residue. It also works wonders for eliminating odors.

Natural Chemistry also makes a product called "Healthy Habitat" that apparently works really well and is completely non-toxic (it can even be used while the animal is still in its enclosure), you can visit their web site at www.naturalchemistry.com.

Hope this helps!
Julie
