The worst problems are in the Chinese markets where the tortoises and turtles are smuggled from every other country in SE Asia. They are often clubbed, have their shells removed with chisels and hammers while still alive, and are generally treated with extreme inhumanity while being butchered for the ignorance of the masses. Humans have been treated in similar fashions, especially after the communist regime took power.
The following is just one example. Over 700 confirmed death cases in police custody since Octorber 1999 against a single group of people:

humans must be treated as human beings. We have to work on human rights before turtle rights, otherwise, there's no way to change the regime and the country, and also the way turtles have been treated.

773 confirmed death cases as a result of police cruelty since Oct. 1999
Yeah Human rights are important to but who is going to go extinct first Humans OR certain types of turts and torts.
You've got the point: lots species are going to go extinct before we humans terminate ourselves. So, what's the best way to protect the vulnerable species? Or reduce the losses to the minimum?
Before teaching Chinese people to cherish the lives of wild animals, we have to show them to cherish human lives. When female human fetuses are still served in some secretive restaurants in China, how can you stop them from serving wild animals!? Show me a way that works.
Take the natural history of North America as an example, many native species went to extinction because of the activities of early immigrants from Europe. American Indians were not treated as their fellow human beings at the time, they, too, as bisons, were almost driven to extinction.
So, what's the fundamental change that finally stopped the waves of extinction in North America? I'd say human rights movements, people realized that one has to respect each other, then they realized that one has to respect the nature, too, as well as all other living forms sharing the earth with us. Then things started to change... laws protecting wild species came just in time to save the endangered species, poaching became less and less visible, the younger generation are educated from early age to cherish what've got, etc, etc.
I think that's the best and most efficient approach to save turtles and tortoises.

Born in Beijing.
What I was thinking though is have some big important people
talk to the government in china or whatever saying that they cant take endangered species of turts and torts.I know it sounds stupid but I am stupid so........If you knew me you might understand what I am saying better.
There seems to be two different approaches:
One is to have a man with a electric baton trying to have wolves guard a herd of sheep. It may work when the man is paying great attention. But the wolves may still take out some sheep when the man is not on guard.
The other way is to tame the wolves, transform them into German Shepherds. It takes a lot longer, but our ancestors did just that.
Voluntary labor is always more efficient than forced labor.
I am not very stupid, stupid I will admit but you know I am pretty sure You are being sarcastic.Am I wrong.Maybe My Idea is dumb but it is my shisnit Meanin I am dumb.So lay off.
