Mexican bairdi eggs laid today

antelope May 28, 2008 05:35 PM

Well, she finally did the deed! I saw her nesting yesterday and stopped back by the house from work to check and sure enough, she laid 12 good eggs and a Mento, lol! Mating was observed on April 06. All look great! Sorry in advance for the pic, I didn't know if she was finished yet so I snapped two off and they both came out crappy, oh well!

Toby, I've hatched some out in 59 days...so not as long a wait as some of these ratters!

Shorter incubation time can mean a lot to impatient snake keepers! LOL

That's great Todd! Old Lady Luck decided to smile on ya'.

Last year I got 11, and 8 were good. Only three hatched. This year I got six, and three are good. 12 good is great!

What's the history behind your adults?

I got the pair in Daytona last year from John Scmitt of Suncoast Herpetologicals. He said they are descended from San Antonio Zoo stock, and I purchased one of the female '07's he had from this pair as well. I have acquired an '07 male from Lloyd Heilbrun to pair up with this girl, but sadly I lost her last winter. I will be looking for an '08 female???? Hint, hint! Great snakes, the adult pair, never a problem, housed together, she kicked him out of the lay box, they were both in there together until yesterday and she laid within 24 hours of entering. Now we shall see if she is up to the task of recovering and a possible double clutch. I have never double clutched any snakes yet, but she is strong and he will probably pester her. I really like the looks of the ones you have as well. Good luck!
