Spectacled Caiman Tail Biting

Balbino May 28, 2008 05:43 PM

I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with a caiman biting part of its own tail off. I can not figure out the reason she did this, she is about 3 to 3 and a half feet long. I am a reptile keeper at a zoo in NC and I would appreciate any comments on the situation.

I do know of Niles that do this. They see the wiggling and nip at it thinking its prey.
