outcastexotics May 28, 2008 06:22 PM

Same time every year i check several classifieds and see CH yellow bellies. Now I'm not a big BP fan but i love ivories and would love to produce my own one day. So what can i trust and are there really that many yellow bellies coming in every year. Is there a standard price that i can go buy to insure a true yellow belly. PLEASE HELP B4 I BLOW MY MONEY!

If you want a true YB - then buy from a proven line from a reliable breeder.

Only way to be sure is to buy from a trusted breeder. Shouldn't cost much more, and you get quality animals.

There are a lot of yellow bellies coming in each year from Africa. We picked up 3.5 last week on a order, and 3 more tonight from a friend who had w.c gravid y.b's drop eggs.

Be careful who you buy them from and make sure they are a reliable source and you will be fine.

We buy them as yellow bellies that are sold in Africa as such and have never heard of one not proving out.

Price wise they should be in the $375-$475 range a pr. for c.h babies in today's market.

Hope this helps, and go for the ivories, they are sweet!

IMO I don't see the point in buying a CH yellow belly's anymore. You can get nice CBB's from proven lines for next to nothing now. Either way, as long as you know what a yellow belly looks like they will prove out whether they are CH or CB. Just do your research and buy from someone reputable.

I guess the question I've always had about that is, are they really CH? Or are they actually captive bred in Africa? It doesn't seem logical that there would be that many wild yellow bellies moving around Africa unless there are local populations that have a high number of adult yellowbellies and ivories slithering around loose. In which case, why weren't they imported years ago when they could've made really big money on them? Doesn't make sense to me.

Any wild white snake---albino, ivory, etc. would very quickly be eaten by predators. That is why wild albino adults of almost anything are practically nonexistent. It is simply too hard to hide!!! Most of the existing albino gators all originated from one nest for many years straight in La. The eggs are harvested by an alligator farmer and some always hatch. Yet NO albino alligator has ever been found in the wild. So yes, there could and probably are many Fires, Yellowbellys, etc existing and even being imported but NO super form because they don't survive unless their hatched in captivity...TC

Yes, but we're talking about a snake that's mainly nocturnal in nature. I'm not sure how much color would factor into their survivability in a snake thats mainly active when it's dark out.

Still doesn't make sense to me.

Their predators are nocturnal. Can you imagine how anything white shows up at night to an animal who can see quite well at night?...TC

I guess when you put it like that it makes more sense. They'd probably glow in the moonlight.

Now you got it. Imagine with our night vision stuff what that would look like much less an Owl....TC

I am sure that color does play a part in the survival of young animals as Tom has stated. And even though they may be mostly nocturnal it would only take one trip out during day light or even low light if your bright white. But I think its more a case of them being identified more often then in the past. I am sure that plenty of these subtle morphs have come in from Africa over the past 2 decades but no one payed much attention.

Years ago I sold pastels for $10 more. Once I got in 4 solid brown ones and I told my employees not to send to anyone unless they buy at least a hundred so as not to make them mad for getting ugly ones. Believe me they always came in its just no one looked or cared....TC
