Elaphe bimaculata with infertile eggs...

tbrock May 28, 2008 09:24 PM

My female bimac dropped three infertile eggs last week, and then stopped, which worried me, but I let her be. She dropped three more slugs today, so she's not egg-bound. Two are visible in the photo, and a third is hidden. I was guessing at just two before this, and she still looks fat enough to have one or two more to go, but then she is a thick little snake to begin with. I think probably too short and too warm a brumation period was the cause of all the infertile eggs.

I'm glad to hear she passed those others for you Toby although I wish they were good. Hopefully next year it she'll have a nice healthy clutch.

At least I can breathe easier now. I plan on cooling them in the fridge with the other Eurasians next time.

Yep, sorry that they weren't good, but glad she is still passing them out. I guess she will be in the fridge this year?

Our South Texas winters are not enough cooling for these guys apparently, Todd. They will be going into the fridge with the rest of my Eurasians next time.
