Question regarding females laying eggs?

soccerpmw15 May 29, 2008 11:22 AM

My female is just days away from laying her clutch of eggs and I have gotten the incubator up and running with no issues. Someone mentioned that i should replace the newspaper bedding in her hidebox with something that holds moisture better and something she can make a nest out of. I searched a bunch of forums and read about people using peat moss, sphagnum, mulch, etc. I have used perlite in the incubator; can i use it in her hidebox? The bag states that it is non-toxic, odorless, but the back of the bag states you should always wear gloves when using this product??? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, quite the opposite is what you need. You need the eggbox to be dry while the rest of the cage can be humid. If the box is at all moist, they will tend to find another play to lay.
Just my 2 cents.
