Tess i have a question about the laws of keeping Eastern Box Turtles lets say me for instance i have had my box turtle close too almost 25 years is it still illegal for me to have him? and if so what can i do to obtain a permit to keep him and not have to worry about this issue. and by the way when did the law go through about not keeping them?

Do you live in Indiana, too? The law came into effect in 2004 and we were able to grandfather our turtles during a year or so period. I can find out what the rules are now for people who did not know about the regs-I know they don't want pet turtles released so there may still be an option to grandfather them in. If you live in another state let me know. I will be happy to do some research and find the rules of your state. Tess

>>New York State.

I will check for you, however, their regs have been in place for many years. I'm thinking decades. The New York Turtle and Tortoise Socirty is an active organization and may be able to help you with your question. That is who I'm going to contact by email-but it may be a local phone call for you Tess
