Here are a few pics of one caught in the southwestern part of Cherokee County, NC - near the TN State line. They're a bit duller than most other locales but I don't know if they're different from the average SC locale. You can tell me that since I'm only familiar with SC's Okeetees.

I've had this male for a few years and just recently got a local female in with a group of other corns. The two local corns have just began mating.

Have a good one!

You're welcome!

I've seen some corns caught NE of me that look very similar & there's a post on down about a NE Alabama corn that looks very similar. I'm within about 150 miles of the far NE Alabama corner so I'd be fairly comfortable in saying that this is most likely the typical variation found within a 200 mile radius (and possibly more) of Murphy, NC.

Of course, this variant could cover a lot more ground than that but I don't know. Now I'm getting curious as to their range. Ha!

Take care!

I know i went on vacation- my beach house where i grew up from a lil baby(aww) but my neighbors(still the same after 27 years) said corn snakes are starting to get on the island... (Harbor island, Wrightsville beach, nc) my neighbors had to call the "dog catcher" now called the "park ranger" even though we dont know where the park is... to pick up the snakes and they were let so at the sand traps. I would LOVE to see what they look like, but supposedly they are just getting started there. when i was lil we had lil green snakes and anoles.... still plenty of green anoles(i brought 1.1 home last time. but believe me... if i see any corns when i go back down, they are coming home with MaMa!! i'd love to see the color differences....

Ha! Ha! Love the style of humor!

Sorry for just now getting around to replying but my PC's been down for the count and I had to resuscitate it. Grrrrrrrrr!!!

Someone said, "Use your laptop".

I asked them if they've ever seen a hillbilly's laptop.

That's interesting that they're just now seeking refuge on the island. If you run across one next time you go back home post a pic. I'm sure you will.

Catch ya later!

HAHAHA hillbilly laptop... HAHAHAHA.... yeah.... its weird they are ust now getting to the island... i wonder what that means for the local green snakes.... they will probably disappear and i wonder what would happen to all the green anoles!?!? i know after hurricanes we get rats real bad(who live in the sewers and rarely come out except for a hurricane) but if you want, check out how small the island is.... google Harbor Island Wrightsville beach NC... just makes me wonder about the long term problems this will have.... just a few years ago squirrels were introduced by a local drunk thinking it would be funny... he wanted squirrels in his yard.... well... the squirrels are eating anything they can get a hand on.... Maybe the corns will eat the Squirrels!!!

Here are a Southern Appalachain (Polk Co., Tenn.) corn and an Horry Co. South Carolina corn. Horry Co. is roughly 125 miles northeast of Jasper Co. where the Okeetee corns originated.

I know the corns in the northern county are kinda lavenders.

HappyHillbilly Jun 03, 2008 01:34 AM

I'll try to look into that one of these days. That would give me a good excuse to go herping somewhere different.

There aren't many reptile enthusiasts way out here in the boonies or else I'd ask someone. There's not even a pet shop anywhere near the north part of the county or remotely close in the north-neighboring county to ask a worker about it.

It may take me a few months but I'll let you know what I find or find out.

Have a good one!

No problem. I'll post pics of the babies as soon as they hatch barring any problems. The female is preparing to shed, and it looks like she is going to double-clutch.
