here is my situation. i have a few balls and they have not been eating well for a while now all of them though they are over 1000 grams but this just dawned on me a few days ago? i have an animal plastics rack 1756 model and the tubs have aspen in them and the rack has back and belly heat i have my helix set to 83-84 now should my temps be around the helix setting? well i have a temp gun and i think i have been getting screwed up reading for a while i mean months!!! becuase i read the temp gun instructions on resetting the temp gun and now i am getting readings around what my helix is set to. so my point is all along i thought my temps were in the 90's range but mean while i think they were really in the very low 80's and im guessing thats why my snakes have not been eating much if any! so anyone that has the same rack does that not make sense if my helix is set to 83-85 there should be no way of getting temps in these tubs above 90????? sorry for the long story but wanted to be clear as possible. again the helix set 83-85 there should be no way of getting those tubs in the 90 area?? thanks for all posters!

My helix is set to 93 in my AP racks, and the room is an ambient 80 degrees. The warm side temp guns 89-90, and the cool side 82-83.

If you have your helix set that low, I would agree, you don't have a hot spot, and therefore the snakes are off feed.

Do you have the probe in the bin, or outside the bin? I have my probe outside the bin, in the "probe spot", and my helix needs to be set higher to compensate for the thickness of the plastic. If your probe is not set in the right location, the temperature may fluctuate as the thermostat attempts to hit the correct temperature.

yes its outside the box! I just don't get it
sometimes it seemed hoter in the tubs than others
but the bottom line Is I been getting false
readings for a while and that is why my helix
was set at 83-85 but do you think I will be safe
setting the temp to 90 even with back and belly heat?
but Im thinking bottom line if the helix is set to 90 shouldn't it be
Impossible to be above that temp on the tubs? Thanks for your post!
