Sucess. . . well, depending on your meaning of sucess. . .

Went herping this weekend in MN. I was sucessful, but this is what I found:

Hundreds of frogs. Leopards mostly. I was hoping to see a tree frog but it's tough to distinguish anything small that jumps from the grasshoppers that are out in full force.

American Toad baby. They're cute, my four year old niece loves them.

This was by far my best find. Very tiny baby garter. I saw a couple more slip past me, too.

What I really want is to see something I have never seen before, or at least something a bit less common than toads and garters. If anyone has any tips for herping around the MN twin cities area, please help. I can be reached at hungrymedusa@lycos.com. I really just want to photograph some of our native herps so I can paint them.

Also, I had a question. When you go looking for snakes on private property, do you generally ask for permission, or just find a promising looking area without a "no trespassing" sign?

Great looking photos man, Nothing wrong with amphibs. When I go looking for snakes I usually look for an area that has lots to flip but has no sort of fence or barracade along the perimiter. I just assume if the person carred about keeping people off there land the y would do something about, we are only looking for snakes anyways. If the area looks like people still frequent it somewhat often I either look for try to get a hold of the land owner or don't go there. If I am out in the woods and come to a barbed wired area and noone is around to see me I usually just opt to hop over the wire. I typically wear a Herp related shirt when I go out so my story will see believable if I am to ge pulled over. Hope this helps..........Scott Wahlberg
