photo's of my babies

nyrich44 May 30, 2008 10:07 AM

Here are some photo's of my 11 baby's. The 5th turtle was born last year the rest are from this year. The last turtle has a bad looking back left foot as you can see I am doing my best to heal that foot. Any suggestions about any of the photo's would be appreciated. I am doing the best that I can to care for them.

Beautiful turtles also like the way you set up the pen. question what are the colors on the turtles shell for?

Cute babies.

I'd still add a deeper substrate of compost for them to dig into. Also, you may want to double check your incubation temperatures. I have noticed that incubating the eggs above 82 degrees F often results in split scutes. They don't seem to affect the turtles much, so it isn't critical.

Nice job with the water feature. That is one of the most difficult things to provide for such tiny little turtles.

As for the little guy with the bad foot. It appears to be an infection...are you treating with anything? Twice daily soaks in an antimicrobial solution and even treatment with a topical antimicrobial ointment may be necessary. Also, you may want to keep him/her separated because the others may bite at the leg if it smells funny.

I have been soaking his foot in water & bedatine at least once a day. I was going to try and put some neosporin on it after the soak would that be a good idea? Its hard to keep him separate from the others because I do not have anywhere to keep him by himself. I know what your saying about the others biting at the leg because I have noticed a few times one of them following him around right by the leg. I am going to try and put some more stuff in the pen I had just put some grass clippings in for starters. They really seem to like the log on the right side of the pen after I put them out in the morning by later in the day they are all lined up underneath it. As far as incubating the eggs I never see my adults lay the eggs so I have no idea where they bury them I just start looking for babies in Sept early Oct. Thanks for the advice I appreciate it.
