Does feeding live screw up FT feeders?

yeahyeah May 30, 2008 10:03 PM

I have one ball that eats live. Well she didn't eat this week so I decided to give it to one of my FT eaters that has been off feed for about 7 months. She gobbled it right up. I'm all paranoid now that I will not get her to eat a FT ever again lol. I'm going to try next week and see. I have some others FT eaters that have recently gone off feed. Should I try feeding them live. My thought is that this might trigger them to start eating again, however I'm worried that I will get them hooked on live and they will no longer accept FT. What do you guys think?

Before everyone starts saying "why not just feed them all live," I don't want to make a 20 minute trip each way to go buy them and FT are also cheaper.

You didn't do anything wrong--- and I agree that f/t is MUCH easier and a lot of times cheaper!

I have done the exact same thing--- especially with balls---

Another thing i've done is try mice on my rat eaters--- works like a charm.

I have big burms as well-- 2 of them are rabbit eaters--- one went off feed for about 7 months-- didn't loose weight, wasn't aggressive-- but it was time to eat---
I have one that is a rooster eater--- we threw a rooster in to the non-eating rabbit eater---
we haven't looked back since-- rabbits and roosters cost me the same-- and if they'll eat--- then i feed em.

It may take you a little bit of work to switch them back--- and they may not care--- I've got a retic that will eat anything-- but thats a retic...

I think you're just fine!

I think it depends on the individual snake. Most of mine are on frozen and I try to keep them that way, just because its cheaper for me to by frozen and I dont have the space to breed rats. Anyway, some of mine are super eaters, never refuse a meal yada yada and I wouldn't hesitate to throw in a live one if I had an extra for whatever reason, becuase I know they will eat frozen again. Some others were a pain in the rear to switch over and I wouldn't risk feeding live because they are so picky and I wouldn't want to waste the time I spent converting them. That being said, sometimes you just gotta do what you have to to get them to eat, even if that means getting a live one in them and switching them over. Like I said, if the snake was a good eater before I wouldn't worry. Good luck either way!
